George Charman’s mixed media drawings, prints and constructions play with the conventions of architectural drawing and model making in order to create illusory and impossible ‘proposals’ for buildings.
Using the ambiguous, perspective-free geometry of isometric drawing Charman makes mischief with foreground and background, inside and outside, centre and edge. The viewer is invited to join in elaborate visual games, to test the eye with double takes and slight of hand, which make up his imagined, ineffable structures.
